HOLYOKE KENNEL CLUB WEBSITE UPDATE AUGUST 2023

I would like to thank all our members and those who helped at our July Yankee Classic Cluster Show, Obedience and Rally Trials, AKC Temperament. Tests, CGC & Trick Dog Testing and our Junior Showcase Rally Trial.  A huge undertaking for a small club but with everyone’s help, all went well.

Holyoke Kennel Club will be having obedience & rally trials on October 26, 27, 28, and 29 at the Better Living Center, Eastern States.  These trials are being held in conjunction with Riverside and Queensboro Kennel Clubs.   Kevyn Thomas is the trial chairman camelotpoms@gmail.com and MBF-Inc. is the superintendent.

Also on Saturday, October 28, the Holyoke Kennel Club will be holding two temperament tests at the Better Living Center. The tests will be given in the afternoon and sign up is the day of the trial starting at 10:00 a.m. Twenty dollars ($20.00) for each test with each test limited to 30 dogs.  If you pass both tests, you will get an AKC Temperament Title on your dog.

For the Thanksgiving Cluster, Holyoke Kennel Club will hold conformation, obedience, and rally on Monday, November 27, 2023, in the Better Living Center, Eastern States.  Sunday, November 26, we will have a Rally trial in the afternoon limited to 75 dogs.

Officer Amanda and "Rueben" payed a visit to our September meeting of the Holyoke Kennel Club. We helped the Longmeadow Police Department obtain a new K-9 thru the AKC Reanile Adopt-A-Cop Program. What an amazing team!

Longmeadow PD NEWS
Newest Officer K-9 Reuben

The Longmeadow K-9 Unit would like to announce the addition of our newest Officer K-9 Reuben! Don’t worry K-9 Kai isn’t retiring yet! He will continue to work his shifts and keep our town safe until K-9 Reuben is fully trained. K-9 Kai would like you to know that he appreciates all the support you have given him over the last 7 years and he promises to teach his new brother the ropes. A formal announcement will be made when K-9 Kai plans to retire. Stay tuned.

Now let’s meet K-9 Reuben! Reuben is a 1.5 year old German Shepherd. He was purchased through Coaching 4 Paws in Connecticut where he was born and raised. When looking to continue our program Chief Stocks said “find me Kai 2.0”. Mission accomplished! Try not to get Kai and Reuben confused….Reuben has far less gray in his beard! Stay tuned for updates as Reuben begins his training.

The continuation of our program could not have happened without the several generous donations we have received.
The Longmeadow K-9 unit applied for and received a grant through Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog. Mass Vest-A-Dog is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support to Police dogs in Massachusetts through funding towards bulletproof vests, essential equipment, funding for training, and purchases of dogs.
A special thank you to Kevin Moriarty of Moriarty's DogTown Professional Dog Training in East Longmeadow for making an introduction to the Holyoke Kennel Club, who with their sponsorship, made it possible to continue our K-9 program.

The Holyoke Kennel Club, Inc. made a generous donation towards the purchase of a new K-9. After receiving this donation, they also sponsored the Longmeadow K-9 Unit through the American Kennel Club to receive additional funding through the AKC Reunite Adopt A Cop program. This program provides matching funds to help offset the cost of purchasing a new K-9 and making the process of extending our program a reality. We want to extend a huge thank you to Chris Sweetwood, ambassador of this program, for his guidance in helping us achieve our financial goal to purchase K-9 Reuben.
Welcome to the Longmeadow Police Department K-9 Reuben!
